Record Used Car Sales for South East
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has released the latest figures for used car sales in quarter 1 of 2017. According to the data released today 2,133,956 used cars changed hands in the first three months of the year, which is 3.4% more than in 2016 resulting in the highest-ever volume seen in Q1.
What was interesting to read in the data were the sales by region figures. With the South East topping the charts with a staggering 317,787 units sold. That’s nearly 95,000 more used car sales compared to the next nearest region.
The focus of purchases remained on diesel sales with 851,569 of the used cars being sold running diesel engines, with 1 in 5 being the latest low emission Euro 6 models.
The used car market for alternatively fuelled; hybrid, electric and hydrogen cars, continued to increase too as more high-quality vehicles are starting to enter the second-hand market.
